The letter informing him of the decision follows:

Subject: Trustees’ Award
Dear Dr. Coleman,

As the Chair of the ASPS trustees, it is my very great pleasure to tell you that you have been chosen as the recipient of the Trustees’ Award, in recognition of your singular accomplishment of developing the science and art of fat grafting. You have steadfastly remained a champion of this new technique, even in the face of heated opposition, and have thus brought forth a great tool for the benefit of plastic surgical patients. The promise of stem cell harvest will no doubt bring even more importance to fat cell harvesting and structural grafting. This, in combination with your constant efforts to improve international relationships among plastic surgeons, has resulted in a unanimous and strong desire of the 6 Trustees to bestow the highest award given by the ASPS. I hope that you will be willing and able to accept this award at the annual meeting in Chicago, on Saturday, October 11 during the opening ceremonies. Please let me know if you have any questions about our strong desire to give you this recognition which you have so spectacularly earned. As the UTMB program director and chief, it will give me great pleasure to present this to an alumnus of our medical school. Please let me know if you have any questions or if there is some way that I can be of assistance.
Sincerely,
Linda Phillips
